Bio: Alexys
In Los Angeles, 2005 at SLS Summer Camp, Alexys was asked to grace the stage with Voice Maestro, Seth Riggs. He was given the most difficult vocal exercise known by Master Vocal Pedagogues to diagnose his vocal tendencies. To everyone’s surprise, in the audience and on stage, including Master Riggs, Alexys connected into his chest voice, then the 1st vocal bridge, the 2nd bridge and continued migrating upwards effortlessly and smoothly, connecting through 4 bridges in all, with no breaks or straining. Astonished by what had just happened, Master Riggs bluntly shouted out, “He’s a Ringer! Who taught you that!” Alexys sheepish stated, “Dave” meaning, former Speech Level Singing Int’l Corporate CEO, and Master Instructor, David Stroud. Dave Stroud is noted for working with Natasha Bedingfield, Justin Bieber, Cee Lo Green, Jordin Sparks, Frank Ocean and American Idol’s Adam Lambert among others. Dave taught Alexys not to force notes or yell on pitch. Instead, Alexys learned to connect smoothly through the bridges in his voice. With much hard work and continued progress, Dave asked Alexys to become a Certified Instructor. Alexys became a Pre-Certified Instructor in Jan. 2004. Alexys also studied with the man who started it all, Seth Riggs. The truth is, Alexys wasn’t a “Ringer” or cheated his way through the process as Master Riggs had laughingly joked, but he had learned it through hard work and natural ability.
For almost 2 decades, Alexys Paris extensively trained in the Speech Level Singing (SLS), Seth Riggs Technique, The Technique of Legends, the same method utilized by most successful voice instructors today. He also continued training as an Advanced Certified Instructor of The Institute For Vocal Advancement (IVA) the largest organization derived from SLS’ loss of membership. He has studied and taught the most highly successful vocal techniques available for over 20 years.
Vocal Technique is important, but a good singer needs technique, style, as well as Emotion! Today, Alexys teaches children, teens, adults, and professionals the three most powerful skills a singer can possess, to sing Technically Correct, Stylistically Beautiful and with Compassionate Emotion!
Namely, Alexys has also studied with supremely excellent vocal technicians such as Dean Kaelin (voice coach to American Idol’s David Archuleta) Greg Enriquez and Jeffrey Skouson both of Las Vegas, Wendy Parr of New York City, and Kathy Kennedy, San Francisco, and Linda Tomkinson in Salt Lake City.
Stylistically, he received incredible vocal influences from expert style Master, RAab Stevenson, voice coach to Pharrell, Rihanna, Kelly Rowland, Dave Matthews, Jennifer Hudson, and Justin Timberlake among others. Other teachers include, Dr. Helen Dilworth, Raz Kennedy, and multiple Grammy Award Nominated Recording Artist, Ledisi.
All of these mentors tremendously influence Alexys’ technique and style, respectively.
Alexys was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He began performing at the age of five and was a member of The Tulsa Ghetto Youth Choir. Blessed with talent in the performing arts of voice, theatre, dance, gymnastics, and poetry, he was selected for acting roles, vocal ensembles, and lead vocals. Such songs as I Believe, No Man Is An Island, Somewhere Over The Rainbow, and later Aretha Franklin’s Until You Come Back to Me, The Jackson 5’s I Want You Back, and Stevie Wonder’s My Cherie Amour were among his favorites. Musical influences include Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Luther Vandross, Rachelle Ferrell, Earth Wind & Fire, Ella Fitzgerald, Rahsaan Patterson, Ledisi, Chaka Kahn, Michael Jackson and Anita Baker.
ALEXYS' STORY
Some years ago, I stopped singing. It’s true. I, like so many others chose mundane goals and objectives that did not resonate with who I really was. It took years of precious lost time before I realized in order for true happiness in my life, I needed to pursue a career in the performing arts, because that has always been a calling; that is one of My Heart’s Desires and part of My Sacred Contract.
So, when I began to sing again, I thought, “Man this is hard! I don’t remember it being this difficult!” I remembered that singing came easily and natural for me, but this experience was different. I realized I had two concerns: Firstly, I needed to heal and strengthen my physical body. Second, I needed to re-learn how to sing. Regarding the second concern, I found the Speech Level Singing (SLS) Technique in Jan. 2000, via Master Instructor and former SLS CEO, Dave Stroud in San Francisco. After two years of training, the ease of singing began to return and Dave asked me to become a Certified Instructor. What I learned through 8 years as an SLS Certified Instructor, reshaped my life forever.
In March 2013, I joined The Institute For Vocal Advancement (IVA). IVA has taken what was learned from Seth Riggs’ Speech Level Singing Int’l and continued developing its own vocal technique. I received certification from The Institute For Vocal Advancement as an Advanced Certified Instructor. IVA’s vocal technique is based on the 17th Century Italian Schola Cantorum Technique. I have been learning and teaching solid vocal technique since January 1, 2000, over 20 years. Today, study continues under the tutelage of the Vocal Master Greg Enriquez who personally and collectively studied with the great Seth Riggs for over 31 years, and was one of only approx 12 Vocal Master Teachers, studying under Seth Riggs, Maestro. Greg Enriquez teaches from his base in Las Vegas, NV and instructs professionals in the music and preforming arts as well as vocal instructors. He has studied the functions of the voice meticuIously and conducts Master Vocal Workshops internationally. Greg seeks to expound on his knowledge and experience learned from the great Maestro, Seth Riggs (SLS) and advance the envelope, teaching others to create pure vocal aesthetic, reminiscent of the days of the Castrati, Bel Canto, Beautiful Singing!
